New & Continued Training of the Standard

In order to certify and maintain certification through the EU-Parking Standard, safe and secure parking areas have to ensure their staff and personnel are trained.

All certified safe and secure parking areas in Europe, including those who have received funding from the Commission, must train their employees. At this moment ESPORG has assisted with nine ongoing Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) funded projects, six established projects (15+ parking areas) which are already offering their services to drivers and several more which are currently in the application phase. One of the requirements for these projects to receive CEF funding is to certify their parking areas through the EU-Parking Standard. To have a successful audit, the operators of certified parking areas (whether they are funded through CEF or not) must ensure their employees have been properly trained on the requirements set out by the Standard.

Annex I of the Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/1012 of 7 April 2022 supplementing Regulation (EC) No 561/2006 states “Without prejudice to national law establishing additional requirements on training, operators of safe and secure parking areas shall ensure that their on-site and remote staff operating on safe and secure parking areas, as well as the parking manager, attend a training on the Union standards for safe and secure parking areas. New staff shall take that training within the 6 months following their entry into service. The training shall cover the following topics: staff training and supervision; incident management; surveillance and monitoring; technology. “

This training, luckily is available through the EU Parking Academy, one of the only accredited training programs for operators to train their staff and therefore certify their parking area. Currently, 225 staff and personnel from safe and secure parking areas across several Member States have registered or received training through the online EU Parking Academy and almost the same number has received the training onsite from one of the Academy trainers .

ESPORG offers this training for all those interested, but it is included in the benefits for ESPORG members.
