On Tuesday, February 6th, 2024, the inauguration of the renewed Jabbeke SSTPA and a demo of “Green Lane Stamp”, a European first, will occur with an ESPORG-led workshop after.
In recent years, heavy investments have been made in the security of truck parking areas. Due to the CEF program, even more investments have been made to build and update safe and secure parking areas around Europe. Thanks to a public-private partnership, the safe and secure truck parking area on the E40 in Jabbeke was also given an integral makeover in both directions.
In addition to modernizing the petrol stations, with 4 ultra-high-speed charging points under the same awning as the fuel pumps, renovating the restaurants and shops and redesigning the parking areas for motorists, investments were also made in a state-of-the- art secure truck parking area.
Thanks in part to the efforts of the Governor of the province of West-Flanders and with the support of the European Commission, a new dimension is being added to the Secure Truck Parking of the TotalEnergies motorway station in Jabbeke.
In a European first, the truck park is equipped with Mac Address Scanners, which allow for an on-the-spot and real-time check of the presence of transmigrants in a truck’s cargo. Within the ‘Green Lanes’ concept, highly innovation technology is deployed, which is partly funded by the CEF project of the European Commission. A cargo free of intrusion grants the trucker a “Green Lane Stamp”, which constitutes an additional asset in the subsequent shipping phase. With a green lane stamp, drivers can use the quick and secure transportation lane designed to provide expediated shipping to those who have demonstrated the highest standard of secure practices.
On Tuesday, the 6th of February a tour of the revamped motorway park lot, including a demo and explanation of the digital cargo check will occur on site in Jabbeke. Didier Dubois, CEO of Circle K Belgium, Carl Decaluwé, Governor of West-Flanders, Carina Van Cauter, Governor of East-Flanders, and representatives of the European Commission and the Flemish Agentschap Wegen en Verkeer will be present to share .
Following the tour and demo, a workshop will be organized by ESPORG and include two topics:
I. European Commission Study about Safe and Secure Truck Parking (launched January 2024). Objectives for the study include: To assess the current status, availability and suitability of rest facilities for professional drivers in the EU and identify the demand-supply gap and deficiencies in the provision of rest facilities, also taking into account gender equality issues; To evaluate the availability and adequacy of secure parking facilities for professional drivers across the EU, considering gender equality, and analyze their potential for an upgrade following certification under the EU standards set out in the Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/1012; To investigate the development and implementation of safe and secure parking areas certified in accordance with the Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/1012To analyze the demand-supply gaps in terms of the needs for safe and secure parking areas and map the desired locations of new parking areas across the EU, in particular on the TEN-T road network; To identify measures and recommend strategies to address the identified gaps and deficient and increase the number and quality of rest facilities and safe and secure parking areas for professional drivers.
