In this series, the ESPORG team is interviewing prominent figures within the logistics industry who we feel embody the values of safety, security, connectivity, sustainability and wellbeing and who serve as role models for best practices and innovative ideas within transportation. This month we would like to feature Pablo Combalía from OnTurtle.

ESPORG: Tell me a little bit about yourself and what you do.
Pablo: I am in the business development division of OnTurtle, where I am in charge of improving and growing the business by identifying opportunities, building relationships and ensuring that the company is well-positioned to achieve its strategic goals.
ESPORG: What do you love about your job?
Pablo: At OnTurtle I am constantly looking for innovative solutions to drive business growth and overcome potential challenges. I am directly contributing to expand our customer base and foster strategic partnerships. To be a 360-degree multi-service company involves to stay active about latest trends and changes in the market and to act rapidly to ensure a competitive advantage.
ESPORG: What is your favorite project you or your organization is currently working on?
Pablo: I am currently focused on security, efficiency and innovation. One of the projects includes creating a better and more efficient infrastructure for customers throughout the countries where we are present, so that we bring value in route optimization and efficiency. Also, we are investing in security solutions that will contribute to our customers to travel more safely across their journey. Not only are we increasing our global service offer but we are also introducing new products in our partner stations, such as HVO, which is a refined type of fuel.
ESPORG: Can you tell me a little more about these customer offers?
Pablo: Our customer offer can be summarized in three categories: The first is “On the Way”—we have a variety of petrol stations within Europe and fuel cards so that our customers can refuel within our network. The second is “Management”- which includes a variety of services such as VAT recovery, recovery rates or sanction management. Third, we focus on “Innovation”, by identifying and executing new products and services that will allow us to expand our customer base.
ESPORG: What do you think sets your company apart from the rest in the market?
Pablo: OnTurtle has been offering global mobility servicers for more than 25 years, with a 360-degree vision to accompany our customers in the efficient transport of goods throughout Europe. We are pioneers in providing multiservice to road transport companies and, we also have passion to help professional carriers to efficiently manage their routes across Europe. We are perseverant, enthusiasts and we adapt to any situation. We set at the core of our business the customer, maintaining strong relationships with our customers and partners.
ESPORG: What do you think are the biggest challenges the industry faces today?
Pablo: One of the biggest challenges is making sure that there are secure parking areas where the drivers can rest. We need an adequate infrastructure that will increase safety and route efficiency in transport companies. Also, climate change is a key issue that companies must tackle by adopting sustainable practices introducing alternative fuels in the market. The rapid advancement of technology, including automation, IoT and AI, is transforming the industry, we must adapt to changes and stay competitive by investing in innovative solutions. Also, another crucial challenge is to handle price volatility and shortages due to geopolitical tensions and unexpected events that can disrupt the actual flow of the supply chain.
ESPORG: Tell me a little bit more about your concern of driver shortage.
Pablo: It’s important to promote wellbeing of drivers in safe parking areas, with optimal conditions and services like we offer in La Jonquera. The European Commission needs to continue adopting standards for safe and secure parking areas.
ESPORG: What do you like to do in your free time?
Pablo: In my free time I enjoy cycling, discovering new routes outdoors and spending quality time with my family and friends.
ESPORG: What topic do you think the industry should be focusing more on?
Pablo: From my point of view, the industry should be focusing on security, efficiency, technology optimization and developing strategies that would enhance supply chain resilience. Also, the Industry should be focusing on investing time in R&D in alternative fuels that will contribute to a more sustainable transportation network and contribute to meeting the objectives set by the European Commission.
ESPORG: What can we (as companies, organizations, policy makers) do to make that happen?
Pablo: To enhance transport efficiency, security, and supply chain performance, companies should adopt advanced technologies to optimize operations. Organizations can develop industry standards, invest in research and development, advocate supportive policies, and provide continuous training. Policymakers need to invest in modernizing infrastructure, harmonize regulations, enforce environmental and safety standards, and offer incentives for sustainable practices. Collaborative efforts, including public-private partnerships and global cooperation, are essential to addressing complex challenges and sharing knowledge for better outcomes.
