A truck driver was robbed on the night of February 14, 2025, in a parking lot on the A1 near Bremen-Mahndorf. The man was sleeping in his cab when two or three unknown assailants entered the cab and hit the 51-year-old several times in the face – the perpetrators blinded him with a flashlight. They stole several thousand euros, fuel cards and a tablet. The driver first called his haulage company in Lithuania, which then informed the Bremen police. The slightly injured man was treated on site by rescue workers. The police are now investigating aggravated robbery.
This unfortunate incident is one of many incidents that have occurred to professional truck drivers while on the job and is another resounding piece of evidence to support certified safe and secure truck parking in Europe. In surveys with over 1000 professional truck drivers ESPORG conducted for part of the “Study on the availability of suitable rest facilities for professional drivers and of secured parking facilities, as well as on the development of safe and secure parking facilities in the EU”(MOVE/C1/SER/2023-138) launched by DG MOVE, several respondents shared fears about parking in unsafe conditions, with this fear being especially prevalent for unsecured parking facilities.
